Review: Poppy Makes Pockets by Jemima Parker

If you have a child that loves pockets, or hunting for treasures, Poppy Makes Pockets is the perfect book for them.

I remember when my grandson was younger he always had to have a pocket on his t-shirt. Another grandchild loved collecting treasures.

Poppy liked to collect treasures on her walks but neither her or her mother had pockets to carry them in.

Poppy had an idea to add pockets to her clothes by cutting up her old t-shirts and using the material to make pockets for her dress. It was now the perfect dress for treasure walks.
While out walking Poppy noticed her friend didn't have pockets. This gave her another brilliant idea. She collected old t-shirts from all her family and set up a stall offering free pockets to everyone.

Many people came and Poppy helped them make pockets for all their special treasures.

Poppy Makes Pockets is a delightful story about an innovative young girl who turns her love for treasure hunting into a community event to make pockets.

Beautifully illustrated by Karen Erasmus with pictures of Poppy outdoors on a treasure hunt, with her pocket making stall, and pictures of all the children with their special treasures that needed pockets to be carried in.

It was so much fun seeing what each child was carrying that was special to them.
Children love to keep their special treasures with them all the time and my own daughter when young used to carry two tiny dinosaurs with her everywhere.

Poppy Makes Pockets is a book that champions innovation, community, recycling and handicrafts.
Reading Poppy Makes Pockets is a great opening to try some easy sewing and talk about what you would carry in your special pocket.
